Why price differences for LED strips?

We are often asked for and we want to give you comprehensive information.

We would like to explain this with one of our top products in simple terms today.

Of course, the used LEDs are a decisive criterion for the price. But what makes them different from cheap LEDs on the strips from the rummage table of supermarket? Brand LEDs, e.g. from OSRAM or SAMSUNG, have been developed in complex processes to ensure long life and high luminosity.

And now the LEDs in detail:

· The degradation (the loss of luminous intensity) of brand LEDs is a much longer period than for low-cost LEDs. Our tests have resulted in a measurable loss of luminosity even after a few hours of operating time with very cheap LEDs. After a few days, noticeably visible differences to new LEDs of the same type are visible.

· Thermal load capacity is another important criterion. Heat sinks are known to be heavy and expensive. In order to produce LED products more easily and cost-effectively, the development is continual towards reliable operation at high temperatures. Thus this thermal load capacity also results to a smaller loss of luminosity.

· The high lumen / watt ratio is the result of a long and cost-intensive development of these LED manufacturers. In some cases license fees apply for the used phosphorus. This is necessary to produce a white LED from a blue LED chip. If the phosphorus is in bright lemon yellow, you have a cold white LED in your hands. If the phosphorus is closer to orange-yellow, it is a warm white LED.

· A high color rendering index (HighCRI) ensures an optimal representation of colored objects in artificial light. A low color rendering index is often found in old street lights. For example, when you take a look to a colorful picture underneath it, colors often appear distorted and pale. Strongly bright colors are available with bright daylight because sunlight is providing a very high color rendering index.

· A fine binning (selection) is important so the light of one LED appears like the other ones. To achieve this, all LEDs are measured automatically after production and automatically selected according to the brightness, color, voltage, etc. LEDs, which are measured in a narrow range, belong to the same BIN.

Let's turn to the LED strips now:

· The constant current sources used on our LED strips provide a stabilized current through the LEDs, which is independent of voltage fluctuations, as opposed to resistors. This makes the application possible even in difficult environments, such as on boats, trains or motor vehicles. These strips can easily handle 22V to 30V at 24V operating voltage.

· Only LEDs of one BIN are used to achieve a homogeneous light over the entire strip.

· The flexible circuit board consists of several layers and ensures high mechanical and thermal capacity, as well as an optimal cross-section for reliable power supply and cooling until the last segment.

· The board provides a strong 3M adhesive strip on the backside for a strong and secure hold at the assembly site.

· The highlight is an integrated and automatic temperature monitoring circuit of the LED strip. If in an unfavorable case the strip becomes too hot by external influences, the current is reduced, which immediately results to a cool down of the LED strip. Even in that case, the LED strip is nearly as bright as before ...

· The last factor associated with the used LEDs is the double lifetime like conventional LED strips.
